Financial Aid and Scholarships
Columbia University does not offer any kind of scholarship. Although, it does allow outside scholarships. Columbia offers financial aid, although it cannot exceed the cost of tuition. Columbia awards only need-based aid. Like scholarships, there are no merit-based or athletic awards. Nearly 50% of Columbia students receive grants from Columbia and the average amount awarded is $40,441. Financial aid applications are due March 1st, and Columbia University will notify the student by April 1st. The student must reply by May 1st to accept. The University offers financial aid for students studying abroad. If the program cost of studying abroad is less than the cost of Columbia then a student will have less aid, but if the program is more than the cost of Columbia, then the student maybe be eligible to receive more Columbia assistance. If Columbia is unable to cover the cost, then the student will be responsible for it (Columbia University in the City).
